So with all that said theres been controversy from last year where a shooting happened near the end of the event or just after in which 6 people were shot. That begins the story of where the problems began and currently still are. Trae of course was in no way involved in the shooting and neither were 99.9% of the people who attended, yet the stereotypes and media culture that exist around hip hop has put the blame on everyone there. They portray things as though this never happens at other types of music related events, however it does. We can admit there is a bit of a gun culture and street culture with much of hip hop. However hip hop doesnt have a monopoly on violence as there are more than enough drunken fights and problems at rock n roll events or whatever other event.
There are almost always going to be problems made by a few troublemakers who want to ruin the good for everyone else. It happens everywhere, not just hip hop. Its unfortunate that with hip hop it tends to come in the form of shootings. Speaking with Trae I know that he doesnt encourage this with his music or message and does what he can to make sure its a safe community environment and event. He and I spoke as I commented about Waka Flocka being part of the event and how I didnt feel he fit the spirit of what was happening. He explained to me man to man how the artists he brings in are relevant to the audience he’s presenting them to and how they would not ever be allowed to present a negative message. In fact I think if an artist like Waka Flocka was able to speak to the kids directly along with his music it would give him a good chance to explain its entertainment and that he doesnt encourage people to do what he’s expressing in his music, its just a story of the streets.
We cant allow the media to dictate what hip hop culture is, we need to dictate it to them and show them the positive influence it can have. We have to support putting a message along with the music and do it all the time. Trae knows he’s in a big battle with the media, sponsors pulling out, artists withdrawing, venues declining to host his event, but he’s in a battle for the right thing and we all should support that. I support what Trae Day is about and what he’s trying to do. I made my opinion known and its respected, but I respect the rebuttal he gave me personally and it makes sense. We have to fight back against popular media, tv, radio and present a positive role and image for what hip hop is along with the reality based stories it can tell of the streets. Theres no doubt its more popular than ever and this is our chance to push back and define it instead of allowing them to define it for us!

What up my TrillSouth family it’s just hours before it goes down in Dallas tonight. I arrived at the room just a couple hours ago and the city is already buzzing. If you’re reading this we’ll be downtown at The House of Blues tonight with the G4 family as well as many local celebrities from Dallas area sports and music. Word out there is that Skillz girlfriend Anfela Simmons will be at the spot as they make their first official public appearance.

Houston, TX – Last year, on July 22nd, Houston rap history was made as native rap artist, Trae Tha Truth, was honored by his city with the reading of a Proclamation declaring that day “Trae Day”; the first time this honor was given to a rap artist. The honor was bestowed upon Trae for his constant and selfless work within the communities of Houston, focusing on at-risk youth. The ceremony was followed by a free family Block Party, replete with members of Houston City Council alongside a host of local music celebrities and was attended by some 10,000 people, who braved sweltering temperatures in the high 90′s to congratulate Trae and line up for the free school supplies he had provided.
This coming Wednesday, July 22nd, from 3-9PM, history will repeat itself as Trae and friends take over the parking lot of TSU Stadium for the biggest daytime party to hit the South Side. Trae will be joined by US Congresswoman, Sheila Jackson Lee and Members of Council Peter Brown and Ron Green, as well as a host of music celebrities from far and wide including Bun B, Rick Ross, Gorilla Zoe, Mannie Fresh, Yung Joc, Hurricane Chris, Shawty Lo, Slim Thug, Blood Raw & USDA, J Dawg, Rich Boy, GS Boys, Rocko, Jayton and the whole ABN group, Ron Artest, Von Wafer and Herculeez and Big Tyme. The day will include a great roster of family activities with live performances, train rides, pony rides, face painting and moonwalks and will also offer an HIV/STD testing site and free school supplies while they last.
It went down once again Dallas. Tonight was the official MTV My Block Dallas afterparty hosted by Play N Skillz at EIGHT.
A hot crowd showed up an attended a live taping of some of what D town has to offer. From Baby C to Big Tuck & Fat B. Damn D and B Hamp were also in the building and that’s not even mentioning Big Chief and his swag. Dallas showed out and I blogged from the iPhone.
So in the future I want to see the TrillSouth fans out to rep their city and say what’s up to your boy. Leave the pussy ass red carpet and rumors where they belong and come keep it trill!
Play N Skillz 2nd Annual ’80′s Baby’ Halloween Party
Author: DigiPimp | Filed under: Events
It went down last year at Suite for the 1st Play N Skillz 1980′s themed Halloween party and its about to go down again this year. I cant tell you for sure whether or not I’ll be there. I’ve been invited but it appears this year theres more of a red carpet event out front at the House of Blues Foundation Room. If you know me then you know I dont really like the red carpet bullshit of 20 people with cameras all begging for a minute of time to ask someone the same question that 10 other people already asked. I guess the red carpet thing its just more about appearances and I’d rather do my videos from the stage, the crib or somewhere else in the streets and not ask the same bullshit as everyone else.
So I cant say whether or not I’ll be there. It is a private party so you have to be on the guest list and there will be appearances by Slim Thug, Tum Tum, some of the Dallas Cowboys, Brandon Bass of the Dallas Mavericks. Of course Play N Skillz with be there and a few other celebrites as well. So if you can get on the guest list then get in where you fit in because you’ll definitely have a great time. Maybe you’ll see me in the spot and you can say whats up.
Yeah Im serious, there is a free Bun B concert going down in D town this Friday. You just might even catch yours truly on the scene. Im trying to get in touch with the club and see if I can get access with my camera, but if I cant you might just catch me there in the crowd just enjoying a show from one of the best artists the south has to offer. Here’s the little flyer and you can thank Torch Dallas and MySpace for hooking this one up, Saints Row 2 is sponsoring and you want to thank Bun B for performing. It’s going down D Town and if you catch me at the spot then let me know you enjoy the site, what you want to see more of and if you’re hater then feel free to hate on me! Peep the flyer and good luck on getting into the show!
