Dirty Harriet
It’s really about time that I got back to getting these indie spotlights popping because I’ve got a lot of people coming at me to listen to their music. One group of guys that I ran into while in Florida at the Greg Gates conference was Da Home Team. I liked their music right away and they’re good people too. We talked for a minute but really it was time to get with it TrillSouth style and that meant get out of the conference room and into the fresh air of the parking lot and the ride for some music and power moves.
So check out my boys doing a little bit of their track and tell me what you think. They’re representing Lafayette, Louisiana and I think you’re going to like what they’re doing with it. Oh and if you see them looking to the side a bit, theres another camera for a local tv show that they do a little bit of from back home, so enjoy the music and get in where you fit in!
Whats up, what it do, what it is? This time I’m back with a real true spotlight, some would say a trill indie spotlight! It’s my boys from the 903 in Texas. That’s northeast Texas if you dont already know and Im talking about the 93rd Fam boys. It’s small town Texas on the block and the streets and it’s all real out here if you dont already know. These guys have been grindin on the streets out here trying to mash up mixtapes, cd’s and dvd’s for a minute.
The first time I met up with these guys they weren’t sure about me. Some random white dude walking up in the middle of the mix and saying whats up. But we talked for a minute, got real for a minute, and then got onto the real business, the music. That’s when I heard a little bit, but one track caught my attention right away. It’s titled ‘Locc’d Out’ and Im going to present it to you, and let you hit them up on their personal MySpace as well as download the track. You can of course add it to your profile on the 93rd Fam MySpace if you like too, or pass around this link and let it be known whats up.
I know the haters will come out, but fuck’em. This is straight street music from real people, not overhyped studio bullshit. These boys put it together on a personal computer and burned it to cd like you should be doing if you want to get yours too. So get at me and get at them, and stay tuned because Im going to let you know whats really good in the future!
It’s time for another Indie Spotlight and this time its a rapper that’s already been on here in the past, and it’s only him. He’s got a little video out that you can check out and learn more about the man they call Johnny Ringo. So whether you’ve heard of him, or never heard of him you should have something worth checking out and learning about the guy who’s trying to take Dallas back by storm. I personally am a fan of everything I’ve heard from him so far and if you listen with an open mind you’ll see he’s real and just being himself and trying to put out good music. Of course stay tuned to TrillSouth for more in depth news and information on his rap career in the future.
It’s been a minute since I put up an Indie Spotlight so it feels like it’s time to do it again. Everyday I come across more and more to listen to and more people hit me up on MySpace or email with mixtapes, links and new songs to check out. So I’ll throw together another few Indie artists that are grinding and that I think you should check out and listen to.
Let’s start with my man Montoya. He’s originally from North Carolina but repping Texas now as he grinds with new music on the regular. He’s been heating up his game lately and throwing new stuff on his page and I think you’ll want to hear more of him once you check it out. Click on the name and go visit his page and listen to that blended North Carolina flow with a little bit of Texas twisted into it. All of his tracks are available for download as well as adding to your profile, check out the track Chopper and let him and TrillSouth know what you think.
Next up is none other than Flo Rida. I think maybe you’ve already heard that name but if not you will soon enough. He’s been shaking up the scene in Florida of course. With a name like Flo Rida, you didnt expect him to be from Arkansas did you? He’s getting some nice play on his MySpace page and in the process of getting a video done to continue his push towards the big time. Check out his page and listen to the track Low it’s one of his most popular and you might want to add it to your profile and let people know how you roll.
It’s about time that I do another Indie Spotlight on here. I always want to keep close to the streets and the people who are trying to make it in the game. So this time I’ll let you in with another peek on a few underground artists that are out grinding and trying to get in the game.
Lets start with a guy that I’ve met a few times, Im talking about Chris McCain. I thought I’d give him another little shout on here so that you could check out his page. He’s been doing it for a minute and is starting to catch more buzz, he’s from the OKC, that’s Oklahoma City for those of you that don’t already know. Check out his myspace page and listen to J’s On My Feet and be on the lookout for a possible video soon.
Then next up is my man from the H, that’s Short Texas. You might have checked out some of the free mixtape tracks that he gave me to share with you recently. If you did you got a few hot tracks for free that are going to be hitting the streets on his upcoming mixtape. Short is definitely got that Houston sound and swagger and I know you’re going to like his music.
I’ll leave it at 2 for this week but I’ve got more coming and I’ll always continue this series for the people that are out there grinding hard and making a name for themselves. That’s where real hip hop lives in the south, with the people in the streets and at the clubs handing out discs or selling them for $5 trying to make it to the next day.
As always Indie artists you can email me and add me to your myspace friend list so I can check your stuff out, and you’re welcome to contact me about some really cheap advertising that I’ve got at the moment that you can link directly to your webpage or myspace page to step your game up to the next level.
Maybe you dont realize it but I get a lot of emails with people who want to share their music, most of it on myspace these days since thats the easiest and best way to get it out. I get some mp3′s and then occasionally just meet up with people in the streets who give me CD’s and shit. So I thought I’d setup an Independent Spotlight section or Indie Spotlight so I can share all the unsigned people that are grinding and trying to come up with their music. Here’s just a quick sample of a few for the introduction of this new category.
I got an email just a few weeks ago about a man in Houston trying to do his thing. He goes by the name of Young Trot ‘The Lyrical Genius’ and you can check his page out for a few tracks. As the name would indicate he’s definitely a more lyrically developed rapper but the music sounds good. Hit up his page and listen to some of the tracks and post your opinions in the comments to let him and I know what you think of his music.
Next I’ve got a group of people called Skybridge Entertainment and they’ve got a page where you can check out 3 tracks right now and read some of their thoughts and bio. They’re also out of Houston, we know the H stays deep on the rap game these days. So check their page out and let us know what you think.
I’ll keep it down to 3 this time so that we don’t overload or water down the content and you can check out each of these 3 unique artists. The third is Bottles Belafonte a man out of Broward Country Florida by way of Jamaica. You didnt forget that Florida was part of the dirty did you? Well then don’t sleep on this man as he’s got a page with 4 tracks of unique sound, almost a little reggae hip hop style and definitely worth checking out.
So get a look at these 3 and share your opinions in the comments if you’ve got any. Of course if someone is popular and you guys speak up and let me know that you really like someone then I can take it a little more in depth and get with them for an interview or who knows what, maybe some exclusive or new tracks to listen to or more. So speak up and that includes the haters too!
