Can Hip Hop Elevate Above Race?

Author: DigiPimp | Filed under: Opinion

You know with this round of hacking on SOHH and the response from Felicia Palmer we once again have the issue of race thrown into the mix. Im into hip hop and Im white, not that it matters but I am so I’ll throw that out there because I know for many of you it will slant what I say. But for many of you you’ll understand where Im coming from regardless of race.

Hip hop is huge these days, it’s everywhere now. It’s in commericals, even old hip hop slang is being used by people on Fox News or in the most un hip hop like places you can imagine. Kids are buying it, singles are blowing up and it’s more popular than ever. It’s more diverse than ever as well, maybe more diverse than most other genre’s of music at this point. Have many of us forgot what it’s about. I think the people at SOHH forgot what it was about. I learned that in my year of running their SOHH Dirty blog. I see alot of other places forgot what it was about as well. It’s now rumors, gossip, beef, cars, clothes and hoes. But hip hop was really about reality at it’s core. Hip hop wasnt black or white, it was the voice of reality straight from the streets like we had never heard it before. Hip hop spoke to you in a way that you could understand and it brought us closer regardless of race.

So with that said thats why I hate to see race constantly injected into everything. We all know it’s there and we all know it’s a difference, but its only one of many. We’re all different in so many ways short but so much time is given to this one small difference. As I’ve grown I’ve decided that I dont give a shit about changing the haters, let them hate. If they dont like you for color, clothes, or anything else fuck them and move on. Lets let hip hop do what it does and speak to those of that are listening and can change and can make a difference. In fact the more we talk about race the further we get from coming together. Lets talk about real shit like economics and opportunity, for those of us that have and those who dont. Lets talk about the shit that really matters instead of trying to change the minds of those who dont matter.

My hip hop elevates the game, it doesnt further the stereotypes or seperate. Fuck a hater, fuck a racist, fuck all of those people who stand in the way of that. Felicia Palmer could have better spoke about hacking, but she’s blinded by the seperation and the slight differences. When she said this

It appears that hackers are specifically targeting Black, Hispanic, Asian and Jewish youth who ascribe to hip hop culture.

She lost the way and the path of real hip hop and what its really about. Are there not White kids on SOHH non stop? Since when were they going out of their way to embrace Jewish people on SOHH any more than anyone else. She threw out the keywords to continue the bullshit rather than bring it together. You got targeted maybe because you were SOHH full of yourselves. Thats not real hip hop. She might as well have said some George Bush bullshit like they hate us for our freedom, its the same thing. Now show me that you’re real hip hop and you can feel me, or show me that you’re part of the bullshit and tell me I dont understand because Im white.

SOHH Are They Down For the Count?

Author: DigiPimp | Filed under: Opinion

It’s odd that SOHH isnt back up at this point. I know they must have been putting in some serious work trying to get it fixed. Maybe it’s worse than we all thought it might be. Most of the time when a site gets hacked it’s back up within a few hours. That is assuming that you’ve got your database backed up regularly and a good server company that you can contact and inform them of the problems.

I’ll tell you I worked at SOHH for about a year running the Dirty blog from the start until the end of April. It was a constant battle of bullshit with them over there. They always seemed more interested in spreading gossip and rumors to get page views over real hip hop. In the end they let me go with zero notice. I was sent an email on the last day of the month told that I was no longer needed. But I could have guessed it was coming at some point because there were always problems with their clueless methods of running things.

It was always one thing or another. Write a hot headline just to get pageviews. Dont use YouTube videos while other bloggers throw up videos from every other site out there. Dont link to your own site even though the contract you signed said you can continue your own site and it was agreed to that I could link to it everyday in every post if I chose to. Dont do this, dont do that. All of that drama for a small amount of money, but the experience taught me a lot. I knew alot about what to expect in the beginning. TrillSouth is a real site, SOHH is full of gossip and rumors and stories copied from other places, sometimes cut and pasted with slight changes. So I hate to see anyone hacked the way they have been because it could happen to any of us at anytime and it’s truly a huge headache. But in a way I cant help but think this is the way of Karma. SOHH fuck’em!

Will Wayne Sell A Million?

Author: DigiPimp | Filed under: Opinion

Yeah it’s more talk about Lil Wayne and this time Im asking the question I asked last week. Will Lil Wayne hit the 1 million mark this week when Billboard releases the stats. The last album to break the million mark in the first week was 50′s ‘Massacre’ about 3 years ago. With music sales down even a signifigant amount since then this makes Weezy’s sales even more impressive. It appears this release is going to live up to the hype. So make your predictions now because the numbers will be in soon. I’ll tell you that as of Friday Wayne had over 600,000 in sales, so with a hot weekend he could be on pace to hit platinum in just one week, what do you think?

Lil Wayne Says ‘Fuck Mixtape DJ’s’

Author: DigiPimp | Filed under: Opinion

So why isnt anyone saying fuck you to Lil Wayne? I have been for a long time but the rest of you seem clueless about this fake blood man kissing got all his tats after getting rich should be thanking god for mixtapes pussy by the name of Lil Wayne. This dude got where he is right now by busting his ass doing massive amounts of tracks and where did they all go? They didnt go to albums, they went to mixtapes and thats where 90% of his heat came from. He should be thanking the mixtape game and helping to legitimize them but that just wouldnt be Wayne. If you haven’t seen that this dude is so blind to the facts of the world and in such a drug induced daze day and night, then I dont know who you’ve been watching.

Why They’re Really SOHH Dirty

Author: DigiPimp | Filed under: Opinion

Well I know alot of you have been wondering and it’s time to speak on it. The SOHH Dirty blog isnt being updated because they don’t want to keep it going and they dont have a real commitment to the south. Many battles I’ve had with the people over there about how to do things and how to present things or what to talk about. They like to promote rumors even without basis, sources or substance. They simply want page views even if it comes at the expense of someone else. Yet they’ll tell you not to use curse words in your work, as if thats somehow worse than a made up lie about an artist.

Im in the process of discussing the blog and how I’d like to see it continue but they arent seeing it my way and thats well within their rights since they own it. But TrillSouth won’t die and neither will DigiPimp. Im keeping it going bigger than ever with that real shit, not that bullshit. So if you still want that truth about the south, Texas and plenty more then you know where to go. If you want that bullshit then you already know I dont give a fuck where you go. I am SOHH Dirty and it was my idea not theirs, they killed it, not me. Now wait until some low paid college kid takes it over and posts up shitty videos and fake rumors, while Im out in the streets doing the real fucking thing.

So if you want to know why SOHH Dirty isnt updating, its because they killed it, but they cant kill me or what Im going to do in the near future. So stay tuned!

Jena 6 & Hip Hop

Author: DigiPimp | Filed under: Opinion

human rights doveWhat does the Jena 6 really have to do with hip hop is what I’ve been wondering. I write a daily blog on SOHH and often everyday is filled with comments about the Jena 6. I cant help but wonder what it really has to do with hip hop. Sure people with a platform should speak about bigger issues than themselves. It’s part of the responsibility of having the fame, or at least it should be. But the Jena 6 is something else to me, it’s an indication of how far we are from real unity in this country and its not just because of the case, its bigger than that.

The attention drawn to something like this when there are issues out there everyday and people who are more deserving of attention is what makes me wonder. People like to latch onto a popular piece in order to seem relevant and educated but in effect they’re only furthering the thing that they say they’re fighting. Why are we so focused on race, why does everything have to be so black and white, or brown? The ignorance expressed by people who focus on one small difference between humans is not something I care about changing. If you want to hate for my color (and im white) then thats your right and I could care less if you ever want to change it. You can hate me for being white, for being a man, for not being skinny, for religion, or whatever else you might want to hate for it doesnt matter to me.

The Jena 6 will come and go and these people will all find another thing to latch onto for the moment. But the one thing that we need to fight for and that’s human rights is still right here and everywhere and no one see’s past the small differences to fight for the common humanity and thats the real problem. So while you’re out there fighting over differences Im looking at how much we’re all the same and how we can better things as humans, not just for a race, a religion, a sex or whatever other small differences we might have. The Jena 6 isnt hip hop, you’re not hip hop and your black shirt today is only seperating you from the unity you say you’re fighting for.

9/11/01 to 9/11/06

Author: DigiPimp | Filed under: Opinion

I just wanted to say that take today as a reminder of what really needs to be done in these days and what the results can be if you stay blind to the facts. Take a minute while you’ve got that internet access today and learn something. Remember who the real enemy was before Bush distracted us and put us in Iraq. Don’t believe the hype, take the time to open up that world wide web and find out whats really going on around you. It’s still happening in the south, the north, east and west. Coast to coast and happens everyday, propaganda spread through and economics seperating the masses.

If you only remember the people that died today 6 years ago and don’t learn and educate yourself then the opportunity is missed. Anyway enough of me preaching at you and back to the music. Educate yourself, don’t wait for someone else to do it. That world wide web is the gateway to the world and land of information, you’ve got no excuses if you don’t use it.

Don’t Be a Ringtone Rapper

Author: DigiPimp | Filed under: Opinion

soulja boy ringtoneYeah Im back with more opinion in your face. This time it’s time to talk about what Im calling the ringtone rapper. Whats a ringtone rapper you might say? Well it’s a rapper that sells more ringtones than CD’s. Currently the number 1 ringtone rapper is your boy Soulja Boy with the Crank That ringtone topping billboards top Hot Ringmasters and on the chart for 6 weeks now.

So where did ringtone rappers come from? Well once upon a time ringtone rappers would have been what you call one hit wonders. That would be someone who sells a ton of singles, maybe gets a video on MTV and a lot of airplay on radio, only to fall off the face of the earth with their subsequent work. The ringtone rapper is much in the same except they really never sell a ton of CD’s they just sell alot of ringtones. Massive amounts of ringtones that you’re stuck hearing in places where you would never have to hear such shitty music otherwise. Places like the office, work, grocery store, or even worse maybe at a local restaurant by that asshole who can’t put their phone on vibrate while you’re trying to have a nice evening meal.

I asked the question today on SOHH Dirty and I’ll ask it here. Is your favorite ringtone by your favorite rapper, or is your favorite ringtone by a ringtone rapper? I can’t hate on anyone, these guys are just doing their thing, guys like Soulja Boy, Hurricane Chris and Plies are topping some of the hot ringtone charts at the moment. It remains to be seen if ringtone rapper success can lead to commercial CD selling success or if it’s just the modern day one hit wonder but much worse!

Hurricane Chris ‘The Hand Clap’

Author: DigiPimp | Filed under: Opinion

hurricane chrisSo it finally hit me this weekend and I’ve written something small about it to go up on SOHH Dirty on Monday. I was hit by the Hurricane and by that I mean Hurricane Chris and his latest single The Hand Clap. While I was out I had to hear this song at least 3 times and it caught my attention the very first time I heard it. The lyrics were just horrible, the song content was worse than horrible and I dont know if that was possible. The beat wasnt good and the song was just garbage and I dont normally like to be so negative about something. But are people really buying and listening to this? Is this what its really come down to, songs like this from Hurricane, Soulja Boy, D4L or whoever the latest flavor of the month is. As you read earlier on this site courtesy of the HoustonPress, the Ozone awards were even slipping and not giving much respect to real hip hop in the south.

It’s as though it’s all one big fake show now of posters and shamless promotion of trash. Rap without real content, consequences and nothing but fantasy. Non stop parties and songs made by fake drug dealers and fake thugs who got all their tats and gangsta after they had a hit. I just had to rant a little bit and it hit me when I heard the lyrics to The Hand Clap include “row, row, row your boat gently down the stream.” Yeah that’s a direct lyric quote from the song, what the fuck is this shit coming to!

Plies #2 Billboard 200 and My Texas Bias

Author: DigiPimp | Filed under: Opinion

pliesIt’s true I’ve got a Texas bias and generally enjoy the Texas sound alot more than the rest of the south. You won’t hear me saying shit like “shawty” or snapping my fingers and dancing to some bullshit. UGK got that #1 spot on Billboard 200 and I’ll tell you at the same time Plies got the #2 spot and I admit I didnt say a word. So let me tell you Im not one to hate on any man for doing his thing and Plies is doing that so whether I enjoy the music or not Im going to give him a shout for selling some albums and getting that #2 spot which is an accomplishment in itself. He’s got a hot single that the ladies are loving and he’s going to be selling some albums for a minute if he keeps on his grind. But you can bet one thing even though I’ve got a Texas bias Im going to tell you what’s going on in the whole south!
