UGK ‘Underground Kingz’ Review

Author: DigiPimp | Filed under: Reviews

ugk underground kingzSo yesterday was a Texas holiday called UGK day. Alright so it’s not an official holiday and the postman still delivered mail and the banks were open, but to those of us that are into that real southern hip hop, or should I say that trill southern hip hop, yesterday was a holiday. It’s been about 5 years since their last album hit the streets and with time in between alot of things have changed, but these two are still on top of the country rap tunes game.

This time we’re lucky enough after all the wait to get a double album with 29 tracks and if you got into the stores fast enough you got to grab a copy that included a bonus DVD with a few of the new videos on it. If you acted real fast its currently on sale most places less than $13 with the DVD. I got mine for $12.99 and I’ve been wearing the discs out in the car for over 24 hours now and I’ll let you know this is as good as its ever been, or pretty close.

I’ll always be a fan of a few classic UGK tracks and I’m just not sure for me anything will ever compare to Diamonds and Wood, One Day, Murder, Pinky Ring or some of those tracks from Ridin Dirty. Maybe its just because I remember the time when I was hearing them while I listen, and not just the song, or maybe its because UGK was still raw and still hungry. Since then a lot has changed, Southern rap has really exploded and the spotlight is on it. Others have come up and come and gone. Bun B has done a verse for nearly anyone that was hot in the last couple years and his mixtape appearances were numerous. Read the rest of this entry »

Mixtape Messiah 3 Mixtape Review

Author: DigiPimp | Filed under: Reviews

mixtape messiah 3 chamillionaireSo if you havent already downloaded it, you need to go ahead and do the damn thang right now courtesy of Chamillionaire! It’s free and its pretty hot especially considering its free. Sure it’s called a mixtape but it’s really more like an independent album release by Cham to share some music with his fans in between major releases. If theres one man thats really about the music and giving it to the fans it’s Cham when it comes to the rap game. He’s been all about the internet several years ahead of the rest of the rappers that are just now getting their internet game together.

Cham has stepped his net game up again. Most rappers are busy worrying about getting their pimp game up, ice game up or some other kind of bullshit unrelated to the music. Talking about going platinum, but only on a worldwide sales level, many of them never reach it in the US. The track that can speak to that is track 3 ‘Get On My Level.’ This is defintely a good way to start off the mixtape, many of you will like 1 and 2, but me Im skipping straight to three when I start it off.

But it gets better from there with tracks like Track 7 ‘Nothin But Lies’ about people in the rap game not being totally honest about what they’ve really done. With Track 8 alot of you will recognize the music from the UGK ‘International Players Anthem’ single thats in heavy rotation right now.

Again the beat catches my attention for Track 11 ‘ Got A Lot of Options’ I think you’ll know exactly what he means when you hear the track. At the end Im also a fan of Track 22 ‘Famous’ because its not the typical club type track, it just a little bit deeper. But hey overall I can’t complain it’s free and you can download the accopanying dvd to go with it for free as well.

Kenika ‘Diary of a Hoodchick’ Mixtape

Author: DigiPimp | Filed under: Reviews

Maybe you guys remember me mentioning Kenika in the past or putting up the video of her SXSW performance. Well I’ve not had in my hands for a minute her new mixtape ‘The Diary of a Hood Chick’ and if you’re on some other sh!t about female rappers then you need to hear it.

I’ll admit to you that Im not the biggest fan of most female rappers but Kenika she shows alot more than most women do on the mic, lyrically and with some depth. She’s not just a booty dropping bopper from the H who has some sex rhymes, she’s a real chick, a hood chick and she’s got rhymes about things from her point of view, street life, family, love and the trials and tribulations of living.

Im going to tell you this is a mixtape I’ve listened to several times and I know she’s grinding hard to do her thing and get that shine so Im going to do my best to help her because she’s deserving. So let me break it down and let me give you all the link to cop it for yourself, and drop her a message, tell her you read about it on here or my GrippinGrain site and show a real true representer of the H some love. There’s hardly a track that I didnt like on here but once you get a copy check out these, and even the intro is hot.

Track 2 ‘Come Harder’ real nice to start off her introduction to the people.
Track 7 ‘Kiss My Ass’ now thats the kind of track I can feel.
Track 8 ‘Who Got Tha’ club type track, see a hater point’em out!
Track 10 ‘Way Back’ the ladies will love this one, but the guys can hear the flow and laugh at what she’s got to say cause its real.
Thats just a few, you’ll also want to check out track 13,14 and 18, but Im sure there will be more that you can feel.

Stay tuned because I’m going to get an audio interview with Kenika up on my site and give you the 411 on that real soon. I’ve talked with Kenika and she’s 100% real and down to earth, so get in and support real artists! So click her myspace and buy the mixtape and listen to some of the tracks!
