A local DJ and radio personality whose name is familiar to hip hop fans nationwide was behind bars Monday in connection with a rape investigation.

DJ Bay Bay, whose real name is Terrance Stewart, is charged with one count each of simple rape and intimidation of a witness.

Stewart was arrested Monday afternoon and booked into City Jail where his bond was set at $150,000, according to Shreveport police spokeswoman Kacee Hargrave.

Investigators say an employee at Kokopelli’s found a woman lying drunk and unconscious about 4 a.m. Thursday on the downtown night club’s second floor. Police think she was raped late Wednesday or early Thursday. She was treated at LSU Hospital.

“I’m not sure if the sexual assault happened after she was drunk or before she got drunk,” Hargrave said. “We are continuing our investigation. More arrests are possible.”

Stewart’s attorney, Eric Johnson, of Minden, released a prepared statement on his behalf.

“Mr. Stewart is innocent of these charges and intends to vigorously defend himself against them,” Johnson said. “We are very confident that after the case is tried by a judge or jury that Mr. Stewart will be exonerated.”

Police expect to arrest another player in the local music scene known as DJ Ron.

Detectives have secured an arrest warrant for Ronald Johnson, 34, of Shreveport, Hargrave said. He is also wanted for simple rape in connection with the assault. Police thought Johnson was going to turn himself in Monday, but he did not show.

Stewart’s arrest history includes charges of simple battery, aggravated assault and traffic violations, according to City Jail booking records.

Johnson is on parole for drug charges, Hargrave said.

Rapper Hurricane Chris’ song “A Bay Bay” is a tribute of sorts to Stewart, who spins at Kokopelli’s and K103 Tha Beat. The song peaked in July at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and is at No. 10 in the latest issue of the chart.
